RFID/NFC technology enables a short-distance connection with an NFC-enabled smartphone. It is sufficient to hold the smartphone a few centimetres away from the chip to start a defined application. Thanks to the globally available RFID frequency of 13.56 MHz, the technology can be used worldwide.
